ROUTE NOTES
The following notes provide some extra information about the route . Please read in conjunction with the information provided above and on the entry form. The full route can be viewed and downloaded as a .gpx file here.
Please be mindful of the usual cycling hazards such as poor road surfaces, the presence of gravel and potholes especially on minor roads.
Please take particular care at the following points on the route:
15.9m: Left turn at junction of Hannington Road with A339, followed by Right turn shortly after (0.2m) onto Ramsdell Road where the road bends to the left. Care on A339 and position yourself in advance for the R turn.
26m: Left turn at mini-roundabout from Wasing Way (next to the Hind’s Head pub) onto the A340 (Basingstoke Road). Passes the Hillier Garden Centre on the LHS. The route then follows the Cycle Path on the RHS of the road, which shortly after leaves the road and continues after a tarmac section onto a hard-surface gravel path. Caution for other cyclists and walkers. The surface is largely hard gravel and is easily rideable on a road bike but take extra care on this section and when rejoining the road at the end of the cycle path.
27.5m: R turn off the Basingstoke Road to join the Kennet and Avon Canal path. Care when turning right to join the canal path immediately after the canal bridge.
After passing the Tea Rooms on left, the route follows a short section of canal path before RH turn to rejoin the road at Padworth Lane. Caution for other cyclists and walkers on the canal path, and care on short section of uneven surface when passing moored boats just after leaving the café.
39.9m: Right turn at junction of Lloyd’s Lane and A339, followed by Left turn onto Ibworth Road. Caution when turning right uphill – fast-moving traffic.
