Quick ride over Twyford Down

A short but strenuous mountain bike ride starting from the city centre by King Alfred's Statue. It takes in a couple of strenuous climbs, some great views from Twyford Down, tiny village of Chilcomb and a fast run down Plague Pits Valley before returning to town on the Viaduct Cycle Path.

Warning: The ride passes through the MOD's Chilcomb Firing Range, along bridleways that are closed when firing is taking place. The paths are nearly always open at weekends and on summer evenings, but you can check by phoning Defence Training Estates (DTE) Home Counties, on 01420 483362.
