Emergency contact information to bring on group rides

What information should you carry

The Club strongly recommends that you carry easily accessible In Case of Emergency (ICE) information with you on all rides. At a minimum this should give a name and telephone number for who to call in an emergency.

To help emergency services/first responders, include all of the following:

  • Name
  • DoB
  • Gender
  • Next of kin or person to contact (name/phone)
  • Medical conditions
  • Medications
  • Allergies

In Case of Emergency (ICE) Tags

Winchester CTC

Winchester CTC has arranged a favourable discount for ICE tags and a lifelong web server secure database entry that is accessible to emergency services via a specific PIN on the tags. This is a one-off payment.

The plastic tags are attached to your saddle (and hopefully you will never need to use them). See ICE Tags

Cycling UK

Cycling UK has a similar sponsored scheme, which is well thought of. The ICE-scan QR tag contains technology linked to a secure database. Their app is partnered with 'What3Words' and their location finder. When paramedics or first on scene spot the ICE-scan tag with its ‘Blue Star of Life’ logo, they can remove its protective security layer to reveal your QR code, which they scan using the ICE-scan app or camera on their mobile device to reveal your medical and contact information.

Unfortunately, this requires a recurring annual payment to stay active if you order ICE Tags and place information on the database. https://www.cyclinguk.org/member-benefits/ice-scan

Phone lock screen

Modern smart phones allow you to place ICE information onto the lock screen, so that anyone picking up the phone can read the information without needing to log in. Information on how to do this can be found here

Paper

A piece of paper placed in the saddlebag with the completed fields mentioned previously would suffice.

On your CTC membership card

Old Cycling UK membership cards can have a hole punched in them to attach to saddles. Your emergency contact information can be written in the white space on the cards with permanent marker pens. This means your CTC membership number is also permanently with you.
